In the mouth of the Catatumbo River in Venezuela, a very rare phenomenon occurs 140 to 160 nights a year. Air masses are forced to ascend from the three mountains surrounding the lake, causing electrical charges along the way. This causes lightning that lasts up to 10 hours with more than 250 strikes per hour.
