The brothel madam would beat Chapman for failing to follow directions. She’d also burn the young girl with lit cigarettes. Often times, Chapman would bear the brunt of verbal abuse. The word estupido (meaning ‘stupid’ in English) was often shouted at Chapman. The girl had assumed this was her name due to the frequency in which the word was used. After months of the abuse, Chapman fled the brothel. She then entered yet another scary chapter in her life.
